Youth Climate Action Training Program Press Releases..Report: The Circular Economy
Report: The Circular Economy
In the 12th session of the Comprehensive Youth Training Program for Climate Action, the circular economy was introduced as a concept and explored as a potential solution.
As part of the ongoing Comprehensive Youth Training Program for Climate Action (2024), the 12th session titled “The Circular Economy” was held on July 8th, 2024. The session was led by Regional Director (TSIC), Consultant Salamah Khatib, who delved into the concept of the circular economy and its significance in creating an environmentally friendly economic system.
Consultant Khatib, a business mentor with global organizations focused on sustainable business and social innovation, covered several key points about the circular economy concept. This included defining the circular economy, highlighting its importance both globally and in the Arab world, and explaining how it offers solutions to environmental challenges and creates sustainable economic opportunities. The trainer also provided real-world examples of implementing the circular economy in various countries.
According to Consultant Khatib, the circular economy is defined as “rebuilding the economic system to address the intractable challenges facing our world—such as climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and desertification—by fundamentally changing the dominant pattern of economic activities, which is currently based on a ‘take-make-dispose’ model. The goal is to shift towards a sustainable circular model that mimics the natural systems created by God and operates according to the laws of the universe.”
The session, held via Zoom and lasting two hours, was enriched by numerous discussions and interventions from participants. For many, this session served as an introduction to the concept of the “circular economy” due to the lack of attention to this important field in Arab universities, academic institutions, and environmental organizations.
The Comprehensive Youth Training Program for Climate Action (2024), launched by the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development in partnership with the University of Jerash, the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development, and the Aman Initiative in Jordan, is the first training program of its kind in the Arab world.
